Stop Repeating Affirmations, Do This Instead

For years, I used to drive to the gym with affirmation tracks blasting on repeat.

“I am so happy and grateful to be a millionaire.”

Every. Single. Day.

And guess what?

Years later… I still wasn’t a millionaire 😅

So what was going on?

Because we’ve been told that if we just repeat something enough times, it will sink in. That our subconscious will magically absorb it. That saying the words is enough to shift our reality.

But that’s not how the brain works.

The Problem With Affirmations

Affirmations can be a lovely part of your routine. 

They can give you a dopamine boost.
They can feel motivating.
They can temporarily elevate your mood.

But they don’t automatically override deep rooted subconscious beliefs.

If your subconscious identity is wired to believe:

  • “I’m not good enough”

  • “Money is hard to come by”

  • “Success isn’t for people like me”

Then repeating “I am abundant” can actually create internal resistance.

Your brain rejects what feels unsafe or untrue.

That’s why so many people say affirmations for years… and see very little change.

The Neuroscience Behind Real Change

Your subconscious mind isn’t persuaded by repetition alone.

It changes through:

  • Emotional intensity

  • Identity shifts

  • Repeated lived evidence

  • Neural rewiring through focused, intentional practice

When you understand how your brain encodes belief systems, you stop trying to “overlay” positivity on top of old wiring and instead you start installing new neural pathways properly.
