Guarding Your Energy

How to protect Yourself from Energy Drainers

In our daily lives, we interact with a wide range of people, from the uplifting and inspiring to the draining and negative. While it’s important to be there for friends and family, it’s equally crucial to protect your own energy and well-being. In this blog post, we’ll explore strategies to shield yourself from those who drain your energy to maintain a positive and balanced life.

Recognising the Energy Drainers

The first step in protecting your energy is recognising the individuals who tend to drain it. Energy drainers come in various forms: the constant complainer, the drama magnet, the constant victim, or even the overly critical friend. They can leave you feeling exhausted, stressed, and emotionally drained.

Set Boundaries

Establishing healthy boundaries is essential in protecting your energy. Don’t hesitate to communicate your limits and priorities with those around you. Politely decline invitations or conversations that you know will lead to negativity or drain your energy. Remember, it’s okay to prioritise your well-being.

Practice Self-Care

Self-care is a powerful tool in maintaining your energy levels. Engage in activities that rejuvenate you, whether it’s meditation, exercise, reading, or spending time in nature. I like to practice yoga or pilates in the morning to exercise that mind-body connection and build positive energy for the day. Anyone can do this at home with only 10 - 15 minutes. I fully recommend “Move With Nicole”, as she puts out amazing free classes on Youtube. These types of practices not only replenish your energy but also build resilience against external negativity.

Surround Yourself with Positivity

Seek out relationships and environments that uplift and inspire you. Surrounding yourself with positive people who share your values and aspirations can have a profound impact on your energy. Engage in activities and communities that align with your goals and values.

Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the art of being present and aware of your thoughts and emotions. It can help you detach from negative energies and respond calmly to challenging situations. Through mindfulness, you can develop the inner strength to shield your energy from external influences. An amazing book about living in the present moment is “The Power Of Now” by Eckhart Tolle.

Clear and Cleanse Your Energy

Just as you maintain physical hygiene, it’s essential to cleanse your energy regularly. You can do this through meditation, smudging with sage or incense, or simply taking a soothing bath. These practices help remove any residual negative energy and restore balance.

There are numerous free meditations available online that can help in clearing negativity. I enjoy exploring different meditations so my brain doesn’t get used to the same one. I search for topics like “meditation for cleansing energy” on platforms like YouTube or Spotify, browsing through the options and select one that resonates with how I’m feeling in the moment. Why not give it a try and see what works best for you?

Seek Professional Help

In some cases, dealing with energy drainers may be particularly challenging, especially if they are close family members or co-workers. Don’t hesitate to seek guidance from a therapist or counsellor who can provide strategies for managing such situations.

The Protect Your Energy collection is designed as a reminder to focus on yourself and to guard your energy from those who drain you. By recognising energy drainers, setting boundaries, practicing self-care, and surrounding yourself with positivity, you can cultivate a healthier and more vibrant energy that serves your highest good. Remember, you have the power to decide who and what influences your life—choose wisely and nurture your energy for the future you envision.
